A woman in the southern province of Dong Nai gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday morning in a Mai Linh taxi.
La Thi Giang and a relative hailed a Mai Linh taxi at 6:30 a.m. in Dong Nai's Bien Hoa Town.
Giang, who had gone into labor, was headed for Ho Chi Minh City's Tu Du Hospital.
At around 7:20 just as the taxi arrived at the Tran Quoc Thao Nguyen Dinh Chieu intersection (roughly two kilometers from the hospital), Giang gave birth.
Mother and child both arrived at Tu Du in stable condition.
Later that day, the taxi firm granted VND2.5 million (US$128) to the driver Le Thanh Hai, 37, as a reward for successfully helping deliver the baby.
Mai Linh representatives also brought a bunch of flowers and li xi (lucky money) to Giang and her son.
Nguyen Tuan Sinh, Chairman of the Mai Linh Group Trade Union, said there have been six cases in which the group's drivers successfully delivered newborn babies.
