A six-month-old girl and her mother were killed when a tree fell on their house during a rainstorm early Thursday in an islet in southern Vietnam.
Nguyen Thi Mua, 33, and the baby girl were sleeping in their temporary house on Hon Khoai Isle of the southernmost province of Ca Mau when the rainstorm stroke the area at around 4 a.m.
A 20-meter-long populus tree crashed onto the house and trapped them in the wreckage.
Neighbors cleared the debris and brought them out, but Mua was already dead due to serious injuries.
The baby died soon afterwards.
Mua is the wife of Le Ba Ngu, a forest protection officer of Hon Khoai Island. Ngu was not at home at the time of the accident.
The bodies of the two victims were brought to the mainland for burial at noon.
