An angry mob of hundreds of people beat a 20-year-old man unconscious and burned his bike after catching him stealing dogs in the central province of Nghe An on Wednesday.
Initial information is that at around 9 p.m. Nguyen Ba Tu and another man not identified were caught stealing dogs in Nghi Phu Commune's Hamlet 6, and were soon chased by hundreds of locals.
The duo fled on a bike, but they fell while trying to get away. Two cars with people then arrived at the site.
While the other man managed to escape, Tu was badly beaten and the bike was set on fire, police said.
The mob dispersed when police arrived and rushed Tu to the hospital.
The case is being investigated further and further details about Tu's condition have not been released.
Earlier several cases in which mobs have beaten up and even killed people who stole dogs to sell to canine meat restaurants have been reported in northern and central provinces, including Hanoi and Nghe An.
