Five members of a family were killed when flames engulfed their house early Thursday morning in Hanoi, police said.
Nguyen Van Son, 62, his wife, and their son's family were sleeping on the top floor of the three-story house when the fire broke out shortly after midnight. His 8-month-old grandson was with them.
Their bodies were carried out of the house this morning, after firefighters had struggled for two hours to stop the fire.
Nguyen Van Chung sits on a motorbike next to his house which was severely damaged after a fire on Thursday.
Five other members survived.
Nguyen Van Chung, another son of Son's, and his family were on the second floor and managed to jump down and escape the blaze.
Chung said that he and many neighbors shouted to alarm the ones still inside the house. But the fierce fire, which reportedly started from the first floor, rapidly consumed the whole house.
All furniture inside the house, locating in a deep and small alley that is difficult for fire trucks to reach, was reduced to ashes, authorities said.
Investigators are looking for the cause of the incident.
