Police in Ho Chi Minh City said they have just cracked a methamphetamine ring and arrested five suspects.
The ring smuggled drug from Hai Phong City in northern Vietnam into HCMC before selling them to small drug dealers, the police alleged.
The alleged ring leader, Nguyen Xuan Ngoc, was arrested in early June by the police of Binh Thanh District who had followed the ring for several months.
Methamphetamine found at an apartment of Nguyen Xuan Ngoc in Ho Chi Minh City's District 7.
Ngoc, 36, reportedly reached for his pistol in an attempt to resist arrest, prompting officers to fire a few warning shots.
The police found 5 kg of methamphetamine hidden in his apartment in District 7.
Four of his accomplices, including a woman and three man, were arrested when they were delivering drug to dealers at different locations in the city.
Ngoc was convicted once for drug smuggling.
Investigation is on-going.
