A Mercedes car caught fire on a Hanoi road Thursday from a suspected fuel leak, but there were no casualties, VnExpress reported.
The fire began in the trunk when it was traversing Chuong Duong Bridge. The driver, Nguyen Anh Tuan, vainly tried to put it out with clothes and was slightly injured in the process.
It took 15 minutes to put out the fire using extinguishers, Le Duc Doan, a traffic police officer, told the newswire
Oil leaked from the car and a part of it went up in flames.
The incident caused a massive traffic jam on the bridge and the street leading to it.
More than 100 vehicle fires have occurred in Vietnam since last year, half of which remain unexplained.
The poor quality of gasoline has emerged as the main suspect, but there has been no official verdict yet.
