Police in Kien Giang Province have proposed charges against eight men for their roles in a shooting that claimed the lives of two people, including a pregnant woman, at a beer club in Phu Quoc Island in early August.
The main suspect Do Thanh Son, who allegedly fired the shots, faces multiple charges including murder and having sex with a minor. His 15-year old girlfriend, who had run away with him during a police manhunt, faces no criminal charge, police said.
Police also seek a murder charge against Nguyen Trong Nghia while six other face possible charges for keeping guns and helping Son escape.
Son and Nghia, armed with a six shooter and some scimitars, searched for Huynh Thanh Bao, 19, to settle an old score at the Lion Garden club on August 1.
Son allegedly fired multiple shots, which killed Bao and Thai Thi Thanh Mai, 31, a pregnant woman who was celebrating her birthday at the club.
Helped by his accomplices, Son fled the scene and hid inside a house with his girlfriend.
He shot himself and his girlfriend after learning that police had surrounded the house on August 4.
The duo suffered from severe injuries but recovered later at a local hospital.
Police also found two bags of methamphetamine that Son carried with him during the escape.
