Police in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on Saturday arrested the principal of a primary school who is accused of fatally cutting the throat of a teacher while they were drinking alcohol .

Nguyen Thanh An, the 36-year-old principal of C Phuoc Long Primary School in Phuoc Long District, also attempted to cut the throat of another teacher who luckily escaped death.

An fled the scene but was apprehended by the police 15 hours after the murder.

The initial investigation showed that on Friday morning, An caroused with two teachers of the school Tran Viet Trieu and Bui Thanh Dang at the school library.

After the three were drunk, 29-year-old Trieu spoke scornfully of An, accusing him of having a limited ability in math, according to Dang.

An then unexpectedly grabbed Trieu's head and cut his throat with a knife, used to break ice and crab nippers.

An quickly grabbed Dang's head and stabbed him on his neck, but Dang ultimately managed to get away.

An fled the scene and hid in the bush near his house before he was arrested.

Dang is now being treated at Bac Lieu General Hospital. He received six stitches on his neck and several injuries on his forehead and arms were also treated.

Investigations into the murder are ongoing.
