The police in southern province of Vinh Long in cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh City police arrested a Vinh Long man on Tuesday for killing and dumping his father's body in Ho Chi Minh City .
A source from the HCMC police's social crime division told Thanh Nien that they arrested Dang Hung Phuong, 27, in Vinh Long as part of an investigation into his father's murder.
Workers leaving a factory in Ho Chi Minh City's Binh Tan District at 2:30 a.m. on October 5 found a bloody bag containing the body of an elderly man on the side of National Highway No.1.
Police denied earlier reports that it had been dismembered; they identified the body as belonging to Dang Van Ro, 65, the father of Dang Hung Phuong, who lived in Long An Commune, Long Ho District, Vinh Long Provincer.
Phuong has reportedly confessed to the murder after telling police that Ro routinely cursed and beat him and his mother -- Ro's third wife. Neighbors said they heard Ro and his wife arguing several times over money, but she left their home earlier this year.
On October 4, a quarrel broke out between father and son over letting a duck farmer use their rice paddy to graze his animals.
A photo provided by the police shows Dang Hung Phuong, 27, who was arrested October 14 for allegedly killing his father Dang Van Ro and dumping his body in Ho Chi Minh City on October 5.
When Phuong returned from a night of drinking, Ro reportedly chased after him around the house with an axe, family members confirmed.
Phuong reportedly cracked his father over the head with a stick and then used a rope to strangle him to death.
Then, he wrapped his father's body in a sack and loaded it onto a bus bound for Ho Chi Minh City, some 135 kilometers from Vinh Long.
Police returned the body to the family on Tuesday night for a funeral.
