Communist party inspectors have proposed punishments including dismissal and censure for six market management officials in Long An Province for various violations detected during a murder investigation.
The VnExpress newswire on Thursday quoted Duong Ngoc An, chief of the Party Unit's inspectorate, as saying that the officials included Nguyen Van Tam, who has been accused of having an extramarital affair with Tran Thuy Lieu, currently in custody after confessing to her husband's murder.
An said they proposed expelling Tam from the Party Unit. They found that Tam had a normal relationship with Lieu, but had accompanied her on many gambling trips to Cambodia, he added.
Tam was dismissed last month from his post as chief of Market Management Team No.5 under the provincial Market Management Agency.
According to An, Cao Van Hong, chief of the Market Management Team No.5, meanwhile, was proposed to be dismissed from his post as a commissioner of the agency's Party Unit.
However, An didn't give details about Hong's violations in his interview with VnExpress.
Four other officials Nguyen Kien Cuong, Dao Quoc Cuong, Ha Van Bien, and Nguyen Vinh Sang should be censured for administrative management vioilations and gambling, the news source said.
VnExpress said the officials' violations were detected during police investigations into the murder of Lieu's husband, Le Hoang Hung, who was set on fire when he was sleeping at home on January 19.
The reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper died ten days later of severe burns.
In February, Lieu admitted killing Hung. She said she was hoping to sell their family home to cover her gambling losses.
During the first months of this year the case had drawn a great deal of public attention, as local newspapers conducted their own investigations and exposed more details and complications including Lieu's gambling debts and her alleged extramarital affair with Tam.
