Police in central Vietnam are looking for a man accused of clubbing a 4-year-old boy to death and seriously injuring another 10-year-old boy over conflicts with his mother-in-law.
Vo Van Mui, 36, has allegedly killed his nephew-in-law Nguyen Ngoc Trung and injuring Nguyen Ngoc Chien with a bamboo stick on July 31 in Thanh Chuong Dist., Nghe An Province.
The children were playing in the house of Mui's mother-in-law, Nguyen Thi Xuan, when he came at about 10.30 a.m.
Mui and his wife Nguyen Thi Hien got married in 2011 but has legally separated for more than a year. Each of them lives with a daughter.
Xuan's husband, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, said Mui came in an attempt to ask Hien to return to him. Hien was not at home at the time.
Xuan, meanwhile, told Mui to make up his mind about his marriage, according to Tu. After that, Tu and Xuan left for their vegetable garden.
About half an hour later, they heard some neighbor screaming and ran back home. "We found our two grandsons lying unconscious on the ground," Tu said. Mui had disappeared.
The two children were rushed to hospital but Trung died upon arrival. Chien is still being held in the Intensive Care Unit of Nghe An Hospital.
Police are investigating the case.
