Police in northern Vietnam are searching for a man who allegedly cut his wife's heel and wrist tendons with a knife on Monday after he learned that she had filed for divorce.
Chu Quang Dao, 49, is still at large while his wife Duong Thi Hong, 34, is under treatment at a hospital.
Locals on Monday rushed her to the Bac Giang General Hospital with severe bleeding from her head, wrists and heels.
Doctors said her wrist tendons and Achilles tendons, also known as heel cords, were severed. They have successfully reattached the tendons.
Hong said on Monday she and her husband were summoned to a police station to discuss her divorce petition which she had just filed.
Dao reportedly left the station first, waited for her just hundreds of meters from the station, and attacked her with a knife.
Hong said she had been "tortured" by her husband many times and threatened to have her tongue cut off.
They married seven years ago and have two daughters, 9 and 6.
