Police in Binh Duong Province have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a jeweler in a botched robbery attempt Thursday.
Duong Thanh Canh was later caught walking on a street in his neighbourhood, but the police did not say how they found him.
The attempted robbery happened at around 8 p.m. Thursday at Kim Son gold shop in the province’s Thuan An town after Canh went there pretending to buy a gold necklace.
He suddenly stabbed the owner Tran Thi No, 44, when she was preparing the invoice.
No’s husband Nguyen Thanh Lam attacked him with a chair and cried for help.
Canh ran out and returned with another knife from his motorbike, but Lam continued to attack him with the chair.
Two passers-by on a motorbike crashed into Canh in an unsuccessful effort to foil his escape.
No was rushed to hospital.
It is not known if the shop had a camera, but the police managed to track Canh down and take him in two hours later.
At the police station, he claimed he attempted the heist after his girlfriend rejected his wedding proposal saying he was poor.
