Police in the Mekong Delta Province of Ben Tre are investigating a murder-suicide case in which a man allegedly forced his pregnant wife and son to drink pesticide before killing himself.

Neighbors said Le Thanh Trung, 36, invited his sister over Thursday morning. But when she arrived at around 10 a.m., the door was locked from the inside so she had it broken open.

She found Trung hanging dead with a noose around his neck in the bedroom.

His 35-year-old wife Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong who was seven months pregnant and their seven-year-old son Le Huy Phat, were lying dead on the bed.

Local media cited autopsy reports from Nguyen Dinh Chieu General Hospital as saying that Phuong and Phat's deaths were caused by ingesting pesticide.

Police found seven suicide notes apparently written by Trung which said that he had a fatal disease and debts. The details about his illness and debts have yet to be made public.

Colonel Doan The Tan of Ben Tre Police Department told Thanh Nien that both Trung and Phuong were bank employees.
