Hanoi police on December 4 stopped a man after finding he was driving with a gun.

Nguyen Khanh Hung threatened the police while being handcuffed, claiming he would call a Deputy Prime Minister to talk to them, without stating the official's name.

Hung said the gun was given to his construction consultant firm by police in Lai Chau Province, around 450 kilometers to the northwest of Hanoi where his firm is based.

Lai Chau police had received the gun from the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security, said the 27-year-old, Nguoi Lao Dong reported.

Police also found in the car two bags of white powder suspected to be heroin.

Hung was taken to a local police station for further investigation.
