A man and his son were severely burned when their oil tanker caught fire in Da Nang early Saturday.
Dang Van Binh, 60, had deep burns cover 76 percent of his body, while his 40-year-old son Dang Cong Hieu had lesser burns covering 84 percent of his body, said doctors at Da Nang Hospital.
Hieu is receiving intensive care while Binh has received an emergency operation to remove badly burned skin.
Relative Ly Thi Chua, 54, told investigators that while he was still conscious, Hieu had said an explosion happened at around 3 a.m. when the two turned on their gas cooker to make noodle soup. They were anchored waiting until the morning to deliver fuel to local fishing boats.
Chua said the fire burned and sank the boat. Binh and Hieu were saved by fishermen anchored nearby.
