One person was killed and another was severely injured in a house in Hanoi Saturday night in what police believe was a homicide-suicide attack over a debt.
Police found the dead man, identified later as Ha Minh Luong, 50, on the third floor of the house in Tay Ho District with a homemade gun still in hand.
There were some empty cartridges and bullets on the floor and fragments of a homemade bomb.
Witnesses said they heard a big explosion and smaller ones like gunshots.
All the glass windows on the third floor were found shattered.
News website VnExpress said the injured person was Nguyen Khac Nghia, 22, the house owner.
Nghia said Luong had broken into his house and shot him in his neck while another bullet just missed his stomach.
But he managed to run out of the house and seek help while Luong tried to ignite the bomb to bring down the house but ended up only killing himself.
Police said Luong had lent money to a relative of Nghia's, but possibly because he was unable to get it back he planned to take revenge before killing himself.
They found a suicide note at Luong's house.
Further investigations are ongoing.
