A man has been taken into custody in Ho Chi Minh City after he was accused of impersonating a police officer to seize an iPhone from a sex worker and forced her to have sex with him twice.
Duong Ngoc Hiep, 25, was arrested after the 19-year-old sex worker reported the incident to the police.
According to investigators, the sex worker approached Hiep in a street of District 5 on May 31 evening.
Hiep told her he was a criminal policeman, and showed her a pair of handcuffs which he had bought in the black market. Prostitution is illegal in Vietnam
Hiep ordered the woman to following him to a police station. But he instead took a to a restaurant after seizing her iPhone and ID card.
After that, he took her to his rent house where he forced her to have sex with him twice, threatening to take her into custody if she refused.
Hiep let her go the next morning, and pawned her iPhone for VND5 million (US$230). He told the police he had spent all the money on drinking.
