A man shot another dead and fired his gun at police in Ho Chi Minh City Tuesday before being constrained.

The shooting killed Huynh Tan Hai, 39, a construction contractor, news website VietNamNet reported.

Local police said Hai had a personal conflict with Ta Chi Hoang, who lived next to the construction.

Eyewitnesses said Hoang was driving his motorbike while shooting Hai continuously on the street in District 6.

The contractor fell off his bike and crawled for several meters before collapsing.

Hoang then climbed to the top of a local house and shot at police, injuring an officer. The man only gave up after one hour, when police approached him with bulletproof vests.

Some locals said Hai had been flirting with Hoang's wife, but others said the construction has caused damage to Hoang's house.

Police are continuing the investigation.
