The son of a man whose funeral was being held was killed when an improvised hearse flipped over on its side in central Vietnam Monday.
Fifteen others were also injured when the tractor used to carry the coffin of Huynh Do in Tuy Hoa town slipped off the road while returning from the cemetery.
Huynh Le, 49, died on the way to hospital, while Do's wife and daughter have critical brain injuries.
Thirteen others, including driver Luu Hung Tan, 30, were slightly injured. There had been 20 people in the vehicle.
Witnesses said the tractor was going down a slope when it suddenly careened off the road and turned on its side after traversing some 100 meters.
The right front wheel was found detached from the vehicle.
Le Ngoc Hay, 34, one of the few mourners to escape unscathed, told Thanh Nien he jumped out after the driver told them the brake was not working when the tractor was going downhill.
Police are investigating.
Since 2008 there has been a ban on using tractors as a means of transport in Vietnam.
