A trial in Hue on Monday sentenced a man to 18 months in jail for breaking into women’s homes to stab them in the genitals.
Tran Huu Phuc, 24, was found guilty of deliberate physical assault, local media reported.
Investigation found Phuc assaulted eight women between late March and late November last year, until victims’ complaints prompted the police to arrest him.
Five of them suffered injuries.
Police also seized a pencil and a wood stick, both sharpened, which Phuc admitted to having used to stab the young women.
Phuc claimed he learned the trick from Japanese pornographic movies online.
He said he felt joy instead of regret about doing it.
His family said he is mentally unstable, a claim dismissed by the police, while his girlfriend said he was gentle and appropriate with her.
Phuc graduated in tourism major from Hue University with high grades. He was working as a local hotel receptionist and has won a postgraduate study scholarship.
