A court in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam Thursday sentenced a man to 42 months in jail for poaching 13 rare monkeys.
Nguyen Van Hai, 43, of Ha Tinh Province, was caught on the road in this July with the dried carcasses of red-shanked douc langurs.
He confessed to hunting them in a local forest, and was convicted for "violating wildlife protection laws."
The animal is found only in northern and central Vietnam and Laos.
It is included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of endangered species, and is protected under Vietnamese law.
