A Hanoi court Thursday sentenced a 51-year-old man to four years in jail for helping an accomplice steal an iPhone from a foreign tourist in the city’s old quarter last year.
Pham Ngoc Thuan was convicted of robbery while the thief, Lan, who remains at large, has to be brought to court later, the Hanoi People’s Court said.
On May 31 the duo went to the old quarter on two motorbikes, and at the corner of Ta Hien and Hang Bac, Lan approached a foreign woman and snatched her iPhone 6 Plus.
Two passers-by on a motorbike chased after them and managed to catch Thuan, who had been tasked with blocking pursuers.
Lan managed to flee with the phone.
