A Hanoi court Wednesday sentenced a lawyer to 30 months in jail for tax evasion, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Le Quoc Quan, 42, was tried along with Pham Thi Phuong, 31, an accountant at his Vietnam Solution Co. Ltd, who got eight months.
The Hanoi-based company, set up in 2001, offers investment consultancy, labor and vocational training, electrical engineering services, and consultancy and technology transfer for agricultural and rural development.
According to the Hanoi People's Court, Quan instructed Phuong to fake contracts and buy bogus tax invoices to evade corporate tax.
Between 2010 and 2011, they evaded more than VND645 million (US$30,575) in taxes.
The court ordered the company to pay the amount of tax it had evaded plus a fine of two times that sum.
