A court in central Vietnam on Monday sentenced a man to three years in prison for killing and stealing a dog in June.
Le Van Sinh Nhat, 40, was found guilty of burglary. He was also ordered to pay VND5.2 million (US$231) to the owner of the dog, the court in Quang Nam Province said.
According to the indictment, Nhat traveled from Da Nang to Quang Nam on the night of June 23, carrying a large amount of poison.
He broke into a local house in Que Son District, poisoned a 26-kilogram dog and took the dog out.
When he returned to the house in an attempt to poison another dog, a group of militiamen discovered and caught him red-handed.
Some locals later seized his motorbike and burned it. Authorities have not been able to identify them.
