A court in the central province of Binh Dinh Wednesday sentenced a man to one year in jail for hitting a police officer with his car after he was caught flouting traffic rules.
Ngo Tung Uy, 31, was convicted of "acting against people on public duty" by a court in An Nhon town.
On July 22 An Nhon police officers found Uy illegally overtaking other vehicles on National Road 1A and signaled him to pull over.
But he refused to stop and continued driving. Second-lieutenant Ho Dinh Phuoc gave chase on a motorbike, and stopped him some five kilometers later.
Uy did not produce his papers, but instead abused and threatened the officer before getting back into the car.
He then proceeded to drive straight into Phuoc, who was standing in front of the car, forcing him to jump on to the car hood.
He continued driving with Phuoc clinging on for dear life before being stopped by locals who also informed the police and got more officers dispatched to the spot.
