Man drowns after being knocked, pushed into canal by robbers in Vietnam

The Ho Chi Minh City police are hunting for three men who allegedly knocked out and threw a man into a canal where he drowned after robbing his girlfriend Friday, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

Nguyen Huu Chi, 22, was hit on his head with a stone and kicked into the canal along Vo Van Kiet Highway after he grumbled about the robbers grabbing the mobile phone of his girlfriend, Luc Thuy Trang, 25.

His body was found around 200 meters away a couple of hours later.


The robbers also pushed Trang into the canal, but she survived and cried for help after the robbers fled.

The police said the robbers, on a motorbike, approached the couple who were were sitting on the side of the canal at around 1 a.m.

They first asked for their ID cards, saying if they did not have them, they would have to pay VND150,000 (US$7.13).

But soon afterwards they snatched Trang's bag and took her phone.

The police are investigating.
