A man and his 22-year-old daughter drowned when a large wave hit a tourist beach in southern Vietnam Friday. Rescuers could only manage to save his 12-year-old son.
Nguyen Van Than, 48, and his children were swimming at Mui Nai beach in Ha Tien, a popular beach town in Kien Giang Province,
They were swimming in the beach when the unusually large wave hit the beach and suck them into the deep water, local media reported.
Rescuers dove into action, trying to save the boy first after other family members told them that both Than and the daughter could swim well.
The two did not survive, however. Rescuers found their bodies later that night.
Their bodies were sent home in Tien Giang Province nearby.
Tourism officials in Ha Tien said the sea here is generally calm but drowning accidents happen every other year due to unusually large waves.
