Man commits suicide after killing creditor in northern Vietnam

A man shot his creditor to death and turned the gun on himself in the central province of Thanh Hoa Friday, the Vietnamnet newswire reported.

It cited witnesses as saying that around 10.30 a.m., Hoang Van Hien, 44, came long with a few other men to the pawn shop of Nguyen Van Son, 48, to ask the latter to pay off his debts.

Son took out a gun and shot Hien. He then waved his hand in farewell to everyone around and shot himself in the head.

Hien died on the spot, while Son died on his way to hospital, the newswire reported.

It quoted locals as saying that Hien, who was a notorious loan shark, had tried to get Son to repay his debt many times earlier without success. Further details were not available.

The case is being investigated further.
