Pham Quang Manh, 40, of Hung Yen Province faces charges of "illegally transporting goods via border."
On Tuesday, police in Mong Cai City caught Manh driving a truck carrying the 1,000 crocodiles, which weighed a total of 15 tons, to a river near the Bac Son Border Station.
Manh told police the crocodiles, of which 920 are alive, were about to board a boat heading for China.
