Police in the central province of Nghe An on Monday said they are seeking charges against a local man who allegedly attacked two police officers with a machete on Saturday.
Tran Dang Hieu, who had turned himself in on Sunday, has been accused of resisting police officers on duty.
Police said three of his friends called Hieu on Saturday afternoon, asking him to help them take back their motorbike registration papers. The papers had been seized by a group of traffic officers in Yen Thanh District after the trio was caught riding on only one motorbike, all without helmets.
Hieu, 20, arrived at the scene after receiving the phone call. He escorted his friends to see the police officers.
However, the officers refused to return the papers, prompting Hieu to take out a machete and slash it at two officers.
Hieu fled the scene and only showed up one day later.
The two policemen, Captain Ngo Tri Song and Lieutenant Nguyen The Anh, were sent to hospital right after the assault with minor injuries.
