Hanoi police Friday arrested a man for allegedly killing the owner of a local coffee shop by slitting her throat to steal her jewels and mobile phones.

Trieu Quoc Su, 21, of Thai Nguyen Province confessed to killing Pham Thi Xuan Hoa, 49, who owns Huong Sen coffee shop in Long Bien District two days earlier, VnExpress reported.

Su told them he got the idea after entering the shop in the afternoon and seeing Hoa alone.

He had sneaked up on her and slit her throat with a knife, instantly killing her. He then dragged the body into the bathroom to conceal it, took a pair of gold earrings, a gold ring, and two mobile phones from her, and fled the scene.

He went to Tuyen Quang Province, where he sold the ring, before returning to Thai Nguyen. He was arrested in the province a few hours later.

According to police, Su was doing his military service in Bac Giang Province. He fled from his army unit 10 days before the murder.
