A man in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has been taken into custody for allegedly threatening to burn a group of police officers after being caught speeding, a local official said Thursday.
Nguyen Cong Nghiep, 51, will be investigated on charges that he acted against officials on public duty, said Duong Hoang Tien, deputy chief of inspectorate of Binh Thuy District's police division.
Initial information is that on May 8, a group of traffic officers caught Nghiep speeding, but he did not pull over his motorbike and present his license as ordered.
Instead, Nghiep is said to have speeded up to his bike repair shop. He then brought a 13.6kg gas cylinder with him to the petrol station where the officers were working.
Nghiep opened the cylinder and lit up his lighter, threatening to set the officers on fire, but he was arrested soon after.
