Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Wednesday said they had arrested a man for allegedly keeping military weapons at a local coal mine.

Uong Bi Commune police also summoned 21 others for the investigation into the storage of weapons at the mine operated by Viet-Mindo Company, after arresting 20-year-old Tran Manh Phuong.

Among the stored weapons discovered last Saturday were six ballistic vests, 19 guns, and knives, police said.

Also in the raid, police removed nearly 100 tents erected by some 600 people from other localities illegally collecting coal in the area.

They fined and expelled 48 of them for unregistered residency.

Further investigations are ongoing.
