Ho Chi Minh City police arrested a 27-year-old man
for allegedly cutting women's thighs with razorblades in several recent street attacks.
Huynh Quang Nhu of District 12 was arrested at around 7 p.m. after he allegedly attacked an 18-year-old schoolgirl, identified only as Q.N., on a street in Go Vap District's Ward 17.
At the office of the Go Vap police division, Nhu confessed he committed the crimes to "vent his rage at society" after his parents got divorced recently.
Go Vap police said they had launched more patrols after receiving reports of several women being attacked by a man with razor blades on the street over the past weeks. All were cut in the thigh.
Nhu confessed that he had attacked the women in four previous cases that police have documented.
The first reported case happening at around 7:30 on March 29 on Nguyen Oanh Street when a schoolgirl, identified only as V, was riding her bike home from school when Nhu approached from the roadside to attack and escape.
On April 1, he attacked a 22-year-old woman when she was walking by his home near the An Nhon Church.
Two days later, he attacked two schoolgirls on the same day on Le Hoang Phai and Street 30.
Police are trying to determine if he attacked more women than he has admitted to.
