Ho Chi Minh City police said Sunday they have detained a 21-year-old man accused of robbing a sex worker at a hotel on Le Hong Phong Street.
The arrestee, Kien Hoang Minh, was arrested on Saturday while hiding in Tra Vinh Province.
According to the victim, identified only as P from Hanoi, she advertised on the internet and agreed to go to the hotel with Minh at around 7 p.m. on December 6, Tuoi Tre reported.
Minh paid her VND300,000 (US$13.3) for her service. When she was about to leave Minh suddenly attacked her and attempted to suffocate her.
After P became unconscious, Minh took back the money and stole an iPhone 6 and a Nokia phone of P, police said.
A hotel staff member checked the room later and took P to a hospital.
Minh told the police his friend, identified only as N, helped him sell the iPhone for VND600,000 ($26).
Police are investigating if N involved in the case.
