Police in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong Friday arrested a man believed to have produced rice wine that poisoned 28 locals, three of whom died last week.
Initial investigations showed that Le Dang Soai, 27, made rice wine by mixing ethanol with water to sell at his shop which was licensed in 2009 in Duc Trong District.
The product was found to have the toxin, methanol, of much higher concentration than regulated.
Soai will be kept in custody for three months pending further investigations, police said.
Police started investigating the case after four people were hospitalized with symptoms of alcohol poisoning last week. Three of them died later and many others in the district were brought to the hospital with similar symptoms.
