Man arrested for killing girlfriend's family in northern Vietnam

Police in Thai Binh Province have detained a man for allegedly killing and robbing his girlfriend and her parents last Saturday (December 22).

They caught Le Thanh Dai, 31, at a motel at 1 a.m. Monday.

They had found Nguyen Minh Tam, 32, Nguyen Anh Toa, 71, and Doan Thi Cun, 63, dead at home last Sunday after being alerted by neighbors.

The three were apparently strangled with electric wires and had injuries on their heads and faces.

The police told VnExpress that when they found Dai he had 10 sacks and many large nylon bags.

An officer said the police suspected he had been was planning to hide the victims' bodies though he has denied it, according to VnExpress.

He admitted to hitting them on their heads with bed legs soon after eating lunch with them.

Police said he had stolen a motorbike, a laptop, and two cell phones from the house.

Dai has previously been jailed twice for robbery and was only released last August.

He rented a house near the victims' and had a relationship with Tam, a teacher at an elementary school who was separated from her husband.

Dai is from Hai Phong and is also separated from his wife.
