Police have arrested the leader of a burglary gang allegedly responsible for around 40 audacious thefts around the country since 2014.
Le Van Hoan, 31, was wanted four times by the police since August 2014, authorities said, without disclosing where and how he was caught.
According to the police, a four-member gang would drive a rented car from the north to the south, targeting wealthy houses along the route.
When they spotted a likely target, the thieves, wearing masks and gloves, would break into the place and carrying away the safe, valuables and motorbikes.
Hoan, who led at least two gangs, is thought to have carried out 40 burglaries, each worth billions of dong, since 2014.
In the latest case last July he and three others broke into a house in the highlands province of Dak Nong, and drove away a VND1.5 billion Toyota Camry car. The gang later left the car in Khanh Hoa Province, hundreds of kilometers away, after failing to fence it.
Three of his accomplices were caught a month later, but Hoan managed to flee and was at large until February 25.
