A man and two children died in two separate drowning accidents in the central province of Nghe An Thursday.
At noon Nguyen Cong Hoang Anh, 4, and his brother Nguyen Cong Hoang Gia, 2, were found dead in a fish pond in a village in Yen Thanh District.
That morning the boys' parents had brought them to their grandmother's and left them in her care before going to work.
After eating lunch the boys went to a nearby pond without their grandmother noticing.
Suddenly she heard them cry out and rushed out of the house, but they had already fallen into the pond.
After a while neighbors jumped into the pond to rescue them, but it was too late.
Earlier that day Nguyen Ngoc Binh, 53, of Quynh Luu District drowned in a stream after pushing his son Nguyen Ngoc Dong, 8, to safety from a whirlpool.
The two had gone to the stream to catch snails.
They were swept into a whirlpool, but Binh managed to push his son ashore while he himself was swept away.
Dong called for help, but Binh was dead by the time rescue arrived.
