The captain of a Vietnamese fishing vessel has remained missing after a collision with a Malaysia-flagged barge and a tug on Saturday.

At around 8:30pm on Saturday, the Newton 5 barge and Newton 3 tugboat were moving from Vung Tau to Singapore when they crashed into the fishing boat coded QNg 94301 TS, from the central province of Quang Ngai.

The fishing boat was carrying 12 people at the time of the accident, which occurred some 17 nautical miles off the coast of Vietnam.
After the crash, the captain of the fishing boat, Nguyen Van Thuong, 30, fell into the water.
Seven crew members jumped into the Newton 5. The remaining four were rescued by a nearby fishing boat.
A search and rescue team from the Vung Tau Maritime Authorities rallied to the site and ordered the Newton 5 to stop.
On Sunday, authorities in Vung Tau examined the barge and the boats to determine the cause of the accident.
They discovered a hole and numerous scratches on the fishing boat's port side.
They are still searching for Captain Thuong.
