Police in the central region's Quang Tri Province seized 623 smuggled bottles of liquor on Wednesday.

Most of the bottles bore the Chivas label but lacked import stamps or any further documents attesting to their origins.

Le Dinh Nghi from nearby Nghe An Province was stopped carrying the bottles in a car owned by Hoa Nam Joint Stock Company in Hanoi.

The bottles were estimated to be worth more than VND400 million (US$20,500).

The investigation continues to be underway.
