Lightning struck a Ba Na ethnic village in Gia Lai Province Wednesday, coupled with strong wind to cause a fire that consumed a dozen hundred-year-old wooden houses.
A local official said lightning hit a house in the afternoon and fanned flames and spread sparks to 11 others, burning them all down.
The houses were made of the rare redwood and could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
There were no casualties, the official said.
The district government has supported each affected family VND6 million (nearly US$300) and some food.
The village is located around 50 kilometers to the north of tourism town Pleiku, carrying typical architectural straits of the Ba Na ethnic group with wooden and thatched houses.
