Hundreds of curious onlookers flocked to a restaurant in the southern province of Binh Duong to witness a lesbian couple exchange vows on Saturday, the Lao Dong newspaper reported.

Le Thi Phuong, the "groom," and Kim Phuong, the bride, invited 150 guests to their wedding ceremony at the Huong Dong Que Restaurant in Thu Dau Mot Town.

More than 100 guests, mostly workers, attended the wedding.

Le Van Nho, Phuong's father, said Phuong was a divorcee with a child in her hometown in Ca Mau Province.

Hoang, manager of the restaurant, said he did not know that the couple were lesbians until the wedding day.

Local authorities have asked the restaurant management to report on the organization of the wedding, he said.

The couple, both Ca Mau natives, are workers of a company based in Binh Duong.

Authorities in Thu Dau Mot Town said they are still investigating the case.

Several gay and lesbian couples have organized their weddings of late, although same sex marriage is outlawed in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Justice is collecting opinions from agencies and organizations about legalization of same-sex marriages as it drafts modifications to the current marriage laws.
