The last suspect in a Viet Kieu-led robbery of over 30 taels of gold in the central province of Binh Thuan last week turned himself in Monday.
According to police, Nguyen Bao Quoc, 33, was escorted to Binh Thuan that day after presenting himself to Ho Chi Minh City police.
Initial police reports say that on October 14, Quoc, together with Nguyen Mark Joseph, a 35-year-old Vietnamese American, Nguyen Phuoc Hai, 34, and Huynh Ngoc Thai, 23, robbed the Thu Thanh gold shop in Bac Binh District.
As they were attempting to escape by car, Nguyen ordered Thai and Quoc to get out of the car with the gold.
Soon after that Nguyen and Hai were arrested after they crashed into a 62-year-old man who died on the spot.
Thai was arrested two days later, and the gold was nowhere to be found so far.
Binh Thuan police said they have sent a letter about the case to the HCMC-based US General Consulate.
The case is now under further investigation.
