Police in Ho Chi Minh City have busted a gang of more than 40 young people believed to be engaged in robbing, racing and using drugs.
The gang, led by 23-year-old Le Doan Hau, was found gambling, playing video games and using drugs at two hotels in districts 10 and 3 when police raided these places early Friday morning.
Police then confiscated several gambling machines, four laptops, 20 mobile phones, three knives, and seven sets of drug-using tools, among other things.
According to the police, they caught Le Khai Huy, 24, robbing a woman of her necklace in District 10 on Thursday night. The same night, they also arrested two others on their way to commit crimes.
Further investigations led police to raid the two hotels the next morning.
However, more than ten members of the gang are still at large, a VnExpress newswire report quoted police as saying Saturday.
The gang has conducted more than 40 robberies and the money obtained from selling stolen properties was spent on paying room rents, buying drugs and gambling, the report said.
It also quoted an investigator as saying that most of the suspects were from well-to-do families.
The gang is being investigated further, police said.
