A Lao man was caught Thursday attempting to smuggle 10,000 tablets of a synthetic drug into the central province of Quang Tri, where two men were arrested the day before with thousands of illegal pills.

Khammani Xamuongbo, 32, was seized 20 kilometers from the Lao Bao border gate on a motorbike, said Nguyen Thuan Hoa, chief of the provincial Border Guard Headquarters' anti-drug division, in an interview with Thanh Nien.

Khammani told investigators that he purchased the drug in Vientiane, Laos, and conspired with a Vietnamese to bring it into Quang Tri and adjacent provinces, according to a report by the Vietnam News Agency.

The case has been handed over to police for further investigation.

On Wednesday Quang Tri's border guards caught a Lao father and son transporting 4,300 tablets of a synthetic drug into Vietnam via motorbike.

According to available information, they also planned to collaborate with locals to sell the drug in Vietnam.
