Police in the northern province of Phu Tho Tuesday said they have discovered a South Korean-owned company has been dumping untreated wastewater into the Red River.
Ngo Quy Thieu, chief of the Phu Tho's environmental police, said that during a raid Monday, on the Pangrim Neotex Company's factory in Viet Tri Town they discovered two 35mm pipes funneling wastewater into a tank that fed into the river.
Authorities estimated that the company, which trades in cotton, releases between 2,100 2,200 cubic meters of wastewater a day, according to police.
Also Tuesday, Yoon Wou Suk, a representative of the company, admitted his company's discharging untreated wastewater into the Red River.
Investigations are underway.
