A 210-megawatt hydro power plant was inaugurated Saturday in Quang Nam Province in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The A Vuong Power Plant, the first major power project in the province, was finished after more than four years of construction, the government said in a report on its website. The project is expected to reduce drought and help regulate floods in the province.
PM Dung said the power plant has to be operated efficiently to supply more power for Quang Nam Province and the country in general. He also asked local authorities to tap the potential for hydropower development in the province and pay attention to improving living conditions for relocated residents.
Also on Saturday, construction of the Thanh My Cement Plant began in the province.
The plant has an annual capacity of 2 million tons and will cost nearly VND4 trillion (US$209.5 million) to build. It is scheduled for completion in two years.
