Justice official held for seizing police gun in southern Vietnam

Police in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho announced Friday that a justice official will be held for two months while they investigate his alleged assault on a traffic cop.

 

On Wednesday, Huynh Thanh Thang, deputy head of Judicial Affairs Office in Chau Thanh District, Hau Giang Province, was taken into custody after allegedly screaming and cursing at a pair of Can Tho traffic cops who stopped him for speeding.

 

Thanh also stands accused of having rushed at Second Lieutenant Phan Vinh Minh and grabbing his name tag and gun.

Vo Van Thang, chairman of Chau Thanh District's People's Committee, said that the local authorities have suspended Thang from his job and post at the district's Party Unit.
